Even though there is uncertainty whether Djokovic will play in the Australian Open or not, he was included in the tournament’s draw on Thursday. This depends on if the government wishes to cancel his visa for the second time prior to the Australian Open.
Stefanos Tsitsipas shared his views on Novak’s situation, “For sure, he’s been playing by his own rules and has been doing what not many players had the guts to do, especially after the ATP announced certain criteria for players to enter the country.”
Novak Puts the Australian Open at Risk
Stefanos on the safety of the prestigious tournament expresses that, “no one really thought that they could come to Australia unvaccinated and not follow the protocols.” He adds further saying that this really puts the Australian Open at risk which many players wouldn’t do. When asked if Novak Djokovic should be allowed to defend his title the Greek tennis player responds, “There are two ways to look at it.” His statement includes one where players are vaccinated and maintaining the rules and others who aren’t and did not say anything further.
The Greek tennis player mentions that there are a few tennis players participating in the tournament who have not followed the Covid-19 protocols. He states that the people who haven’t paid any heed to the regulation “follow their own way, which kind of makes the majority look like fools”.
